β€œThe Great Swamp Conservancy is probably one of the best kept secrets in our area. Many people are enamored by the beauty of mountains or waterfalls, but the wildlife interactions in natural environments is hard to come by as plentiful as it is at the swamp. The elaborate trail system containing a boardwalk through the heart of the swamp provides a fascinating perspective that is hard to replicate. The heron rookery provides hours of entertainment in the spring, along with the new life that is bountiful throughout the conservation from a long winter. There is always the excitement of seeing/hearing a different animal or bird around any corner.

Not only is the conservancy a place for year round adventures (did I mention snowshoeing/x-skiing in the winter?), it is a welcomed retreat for all ages! From young kids fascinated with animal demonstrations, to middle school kids learning about fossils, to adults perfecting their photography skills, education opportunities are endless. The excitement of kids at the wide range of events offered throughout the year is contagious. If a more relaxed atmosphere is what you desire enjoy watching the birds feed while enjoying a cup of coffee.

Last but certainly not least is the staff and volunteers that make it all happen! A selfless crew that works tirelessly to ensure their events are a success and the Conservancy is always looking its best. You would be hard pressed to find such a wonderful group of people and such a beautiful resource anywhere, and we are fortunate to have it right here in Canastota!

So when you ask what there is to Love about the Conservancy, it might be easier to ask what is NOT to Love?”
