What is happening to NYS Forests?

  • Great Swamp Conservancy, Inc. (map)

Otsego County Soil and Water Conservation District Forester, Dan Zimmerman will host a presentation on how invasive species and new diseases are altering the forests in NYS.

-The Emerald Ash Borer is an exotic beetle responsible for the destruction of tens of millions of ash trees in North America.

-The Hemlock Wooly Adelgid is an aphid-like, invasive insect that sucks the sap from Hemlock trees.

-Beech Leaf Disease is killing both native and ornamental beech tree species.

How will our forests look in the future because of all of these threats?
